SAFETY:
First Do No Harm
Most nutraceuticals, vitamins and supplements have a wide therapeutic index and a well known safety profile. We target these well know, safe and readably available molecules at specific molecular/proteomic targets of aging. The complete safety profile of a coordinated manipulation of these networks is unknown. As with any change in your diet or addition of supplements, listen to your body and if you encounter any change that is concerning to you, stop, take a break and re-access you treatment plan. Remember the physicians first principal: “First do no harm!” If you choose to implement any of the information provided herein, we strongly recommend you collaborate with your primary care physician to guide, monitor and evaluate your health and progress in this endeavor. Accessing most laboratory markers also requires the script provided by you physician. Every human being is different, genetically, epigenetically and environmentally. It import to go slow and determine how your body reacts to each new AIR interventional agent.
Biological Networks
The targets of aging identified within this site control networks or are controlled by networks. That simple statement belies the complexity that exists in crosstalk and feedback loops within and between these immunological communication channels. It also completely ignores inadvertent or incorrect signals, often referred to as nosie. The linked Metabolic Pathway chart by Roche will give you a hint of this complexity. A great deal of safety information exists for the AIR active agents identified herein, appropriately and effectively modulating the respective targets. The novelty of simultaneously and effectively down or up-regulating identified proteomic aging pathways is far less know from a safety perspective. The information provided here is not meant to constitute medical advice. Age-Regression.com is a compilation and distillation of the emerging aging research. Antidotal reports, blog postings of first person accounts, and individual opinions are also not in any way, recommendations or medical advice. Treatment schedules and target matrixes are proved as community / collaborative working tools to optimize effectively addressing these targeted pathways, and not a recommendation of any interventional strategies.
Age regression is still an emerging discipline. Just like the spirals in the image on the left, things can appear to be simple and obvious, but after closer examination or the emergence of new information, a radically different picture can result. Note that there are no spirals in the image on the left, only unconnected circles. Data that looks like it is irrefutable will often have other variables that will contradict its apparent validity. What looks definitive can often become contradicted as the science advances and additional data becomes available from better controlled studies. Sometimes It’s impossible to know, that what we think we know for sure, is wrong.
Researchers are learning that biological pathways are far more complicated than once thought. Most pathways do not start at point A and end at point B. In fact, many pathways have no real boundaries, and pathways often work together to accomplish tasks. When multiple biological pathways interact with each other, they form a biological network.
This leads us to an important point. Although the signals we want to increase or decrease may seem obvious, the network effect in not and underscores the tenuous nature of blindly attempting to re-direct the signaling milieu of the age controlling plasma-factors. Each and every time that you perturb the equilibrium of the signaling networks you are introducing a cascade of intended and as often as not, unknow and un-intended consequences. An excellent example of how complicated the signaling within these networks can be is provided in: “Is Oxytocin “Nature’s Medicine,” by Robert Dantzer. This review of just one of the seemingly obvious target of aging (Oxytocin,) is both valuable and instructive. [1]. Because we are primary focused on nutritional supplements, a large body of data exists supporting the respective safety profiles of each individual supplement. Selectively and simultaneously directing and re-directing multiply pathways in divergent directions edges us outside of that window of safety. The point is to move slowly guided by as much feedback as we can possibly obtain. It has taken most of us more that 50 years to get to a point where reversing our biological age is now desired or necessary. Safely reversing the aging process will require time, restraint and the community this site is striving to build.
There is also this one last caveat; it is entirely possible and indeed likely that some, or many of the factors controlling the Biological Age Set Point are still unknown to researchers and the general public. In the immortal words of Donald Rumsfeld ― “There are known knowns, things we know that we know we know; and there are known unknowns, things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown, unknowns, things we do not know, we don't know.” [2]
